1841 Born in Sleaty in the Queens County, near Carlow Town, eldest son of Gerald and Julia ( nee Kinsellagh)
1852 As a result of the Great Famine and the lack of rent payments his father Gerald with no foreseeable future left Ireland for New Orleans, USA where his younger bother was already working and then went on up the Missisippi to Arkansas.
1858 His father Gerald dies in Arkansas, USA. MORE>
1858 12th Jan He enlists in the 13th Light Dragoons later renamed the 13th Regt. of Hussars, Rank of Troop Sargent Major ( PAYMASTERS,CLERK), Service No. 152. ( noted also in the Browning Pedigree 1867 )
1861 6th Jul He is made guardian of Court of Chancery being a minor under 21 yrs. MORE>
1864 Balance of Sleaty lands are sold by the Landed Estates Court, then the family breaks up. MORE>
1865 His mother Julia gets a job as Matron of Kilmallock Poor Law Union, Co Limerick.
1870 At the age of 29 he marries Sarah of Toronto, Canada and had issue of a large family
1871 abt: a dau Mary.
1873 abt: a dau Letitia.
1874 abt: a son Frederick.
1875 Alfred is described as a 'private soldier' in the JKAS journal '' Sequel to Ui Dunlang '' pedigree by Rev Francis Shearman.
1877 abt: a dau Caroline, born in Ireland
1876 abt: a dau Florence, born in Lucknow,Bengal, India, a widow living with her Father in Portsmouth, 1911.
1878 A son Frederick William A. Byrne (1878-1906 ) B: in Bengal Lucknow India per ANCESTRY
Died 24th Feb 1906 in Devonport, Devon, England.

1879 26th May Alfred is discharged due to ill health.
1880 abt: a son Joseph.
With a large growing family Alfred then joined the Army Service Corps as a Supt. Brk. Sargent located in Alderney, in the Chanel Islands. MORE later
1891 Chanel Islands Census. Resident in Alderney with Sarah.
1901 England and Wales Census: A. Byrne, aged 60, Irish of Fort Albert, St. Anns, Alderney.
1900 Retired Supt. Brk. Sgt. A S Corps, aged 60.
He then retired to live in Devenport, Devon, nr. Portsmouth with his wife Sarah and his dau. Florence Hayes.
1903 Alfred visited his brother Charles in Clonmel. See Geralds letter. MORE later
