1700 Background
To understand the awful turmoil of events which took place in Ireland during the 1700s and even on into early 18oos, one has to understand the basic cause which was the enactment of the PENAL LAWS in 1704 and which culminated with the Great Famine of 1840's causing untold hardship, poverty, death and massive immigration to the ordinary people of Ireland.
