This was the guy I was looking for and hopefully his father EDMOND and on back to Feagh Mc Hugh himself.
The family appeared to originate from Ballinakill but which county ! Did you know there is a Ballinakill in nearly every county in Ireland. It was'nt Wicklow so maybe Carlow
.
So on down to Carlow.
Checked all three graveyards in Ballinakill , NO joy. Got directions and drove out to Ballinakill, There I met Ned Cashin , current owner of the Byrne homestead. The Byrnes had long gone but he suggested I go and see Eddie McDonald, the local historian.
Eddie listened to my story and suggested we go back down to the 'old grave yard '
With tractor and trailer and shovels we arrived and Eddie went  straight to a grass covered mound of earth and started digging.
WOW  !  the memorial stone of  ' Charles Byrne of Sleaty ' appeared complete with his Byrne coat of Arms.
